Akali
The Rogue Assassin
Abandoning the Kinkou Order and her title of Fist of Shadow, Akali now strikes alone — ready to be the deadly weapon her people need, one kill at a time.
Akali Overview
A high-skill-ceiling burst assassin with built-in stealth, gap-close, and execute — one of the most banned champions in 2026 with a 12.5% ban rate.
Akali is a melee burst assassin who thrives in mid lane and top lane by eliminating priority targets before they can react. Her defining mechanic is the interaction between her passive Assassin's Mark and her full kit — every ability cast creates a ring of energy around the target, and exiting that ring empowers Akali's next basic attack with bonus range and massive bonus damage. Master this passive proc in every trade and your damage output doubles.
Her Twilight Shroud (W) makes her invisible and untargetable by enemy spells within its smoke cloud, transforming her into one of the hardest champions to catch in the game. Combined with the dash on Shuriken Flip (E) and the triple-dash execute of Perfect Execution (R), she has more mobility tools than almost any other assassin.
In Patch 26.15, Akali holds a 12.5% ban rate — among the highest in the game — reflecting her consistent threat in skilled hands. Her win rate sits at approximately 49%–51% at Emerald+, typical of a high-difficulty champion where player skill dominates matchup outcomes.
Abilities
Full breakdown — exact values Patch 26.15. The passive proc (Assassin's Mark) amplifies every single trade. Learn it first.
Assassin's Mark
Whenever Akali hits an enemy champion with an ability, she reveals a ring of energy around them for 4 seconds and gains 30/40/50/60% movement speed toward that ring (based on level). Exiting the ring through the outer edge empowers her next basic attack with +75 bonus range and deals bonus magic damage.
This passive is the core of every trade Akali makes. Casting Q creates the ring, she sprints through it, procs the empowered auto for massive damage, then casts the next ability. Mastering the timing of the ring exit — walking through the edge rather than past the target — is the single most important mechanical habit on Akali.
Five Point Strike
Akali throws out five kunai in a cone in the target direction, dealing magic damage to all enemies hit based on her bonus Attack Damage and Ability Power. Enemies at the outer edge of the cone are also slowed by 50% for 0.5 seconds.
Five Point Strike is Akali's primary damage and passive-trigger tool. It also generates energy on hit. The outer-edge slow is a crucial mechanic — angle Q to hit the target at the tip of the cone during a chase for the guaranteed slow into your follow-up E or R.
Twilight Shroud
Akali tosses out a cover of smoke, briefly gaining movement speed. While inside the shroud, she becomes invisible and unable to be selected by enemy spells and attacks. Attacking or using abilities briefly reveals her — but she can re-enter stealth after a re-stealth timer that decreases with level (1s at level 1 → 0.625s at level 16).
The shroud does NOT prevent enemies from seeing her general location when she attacks. It does prevent targeted spells from locking onto her and stops auto-attacks from being queued. Turrets cannot reveal her inside the shroud — making Akali one of the few champions who can dive safely and hide under the turret itself.
Shuriken Flip
Akali flips backward and throws a shuriken forward in the target direction, dealing magic damage to the first enemy hit. The first enemy champion, monster, or smoke cloud section hit is marked for 3 seconds — during which Shuriken Flip can be recast to dash toward the marked target.
The shuriken can hit the Twilight Shroud smoke itself, marking the smoke section. Dashing to a marked smoke section places Akali inside it — a key escape tool. E into the shroud, re-enter stealth, then use R to re-engage is one of Akali's most powerful sequences.
Perfect Execution
First Cast: Akali leaps in the target direction, dealing magic damage to all enemies she strikes. This cast is a repositioning tool — she often uses it to close distance or escape before committing with the second cast.
Second Cast (within 10 seconds): Akali dashes in the target direction dealing physical damage to all enemies struck, with bonus damage scaling based on the target's missing health — 0% at full HP up to 150% bonus at 0 HP. This second cast is a true execute — the lower the target's health, the more it deals. Perfect Execution's power multiplies dramatically when used on low-health targets fleeing from a trade.

Max Q first, then E, then W
Passive proc is the entire kit. Every single trade revolves around triggering Assassin's Mark. Cast Q → sprint through the ring's outer edge → empowered auto → next ability. This two-hit combo is your bread and butter from level 1. If you're not exiting the ring on every Q, your damage is roughly halved.
Twilight Shroud is your safety net. W when you're in trouble, not as an opener. Inside the shroud, enemy targeted spells can't lock onto you. Use this to bait skillshots and waste cooldowns before you re-engage with E dash and R.
E into shroud = escape: Hit E shuriken into your own smoke cloud → the smoke is marked → recast E to dash into it → you're now inside and invisible. This is the number one escape sequence. Practice it until it's muscle memory.
R second cast execute: Never waste R second cast when the target is at full health. The execute scaling rewards patience — hold the second cast until they're below 40% HP for the maximum 150% bonus. The first R cast is the gap closer; the second is the kill.
Energy management: Unlike other assassins, Akali uses Energy — not mana. She regenerates 50 energy on Q hit and regens naturally. Never spam Q when out of range; energy is finite per window. Plan your ability sequence around energy: Q (100) → E (50) → Q (100) = 250 total, manageable with proper regen timing.
Lore
From the Kinkou Order to a lone weapon — Akali's path from student to rogue assassin.
Akali was born into the Kinkou Order — an ancient Ionian organization that exists to maintain balance between the physical world and the spirit realm. The daughter of a Fist of Shadow, she trained from childhood under Shen, the Eye of Twilight, mastering the shadow arts and earning the title of Fist of Shadow herself.
But Akali grew restless. The Kinkou's philosophy demanded passivity — observe, maintain balance, do not take sides. To Akali, as Noxus advanced on Ionia and her people suffered, passivity was complicity. She could not stand by while the Order debated while innocent Ionians died. The day she decided she had to act — the day she had to choose between the Order's rules and her people's lives — she chose her people.
She abandoned the Kinkou. She abandoned her title. She tore the mask from her face and struck out alone — no order, no rules, no master. Just the kamas her mother left her and the training that made her one of the deadliest fighters in Ionia.
Now Akali operates on her own terms — hunting Noxian commanders, corrupt Ionian officials, and anyone she judges a threat to her homeland. She holds onto everything Shen taught her about balance and patience, even as she rejects the Order's conclusion about how to achieve it. She is, in her own words, "the deadly weapon her people need" — even if they didn't ask for one.
Her story intersects most meaningfully with Shen (her master, who understands her reasons even if he can't approve her methods), Kennen (her former teammate in the Kinkou), and Zed (a shadow of what she fears she might become if she loses herself to the assassin's life entirely).
