Mage Mid Lane Zaun Augmentable Kit
001 — Champion File
Overview

A sustained damage mage who thrives in the mid lane, evolving his kit as he farms.

Viktor is a scaling battlemage who dominates the mid lane through patient farming and careful zone control. What sets him apart from every other champion is his Glorious Evolution passive — a system that lets him permanently upgrade each of his basic abilities as he earns Hex Fragments from kills.

He trades with Siphon Power, using the shield to absorb punishment while his empowered attack procs. He zones and stalls with Gravity Field, which slows and eventually stuns anyone foolish enough to stay in its radius. He waves clears with Hextech Ray, firing a laser beam across the field. And late game, his Chaos Storm becomes one of the most powerful team-fighting tools in League — a roaming singularity that seeks out enemies and deals relentless AoE damage.

Early levels feel deliberate and calculated. Post-upgrades, Viktor transforms into a late-game powerhouse capable of single-handedly carrying team fights. His augments let you tailor him to your matchup: upgrade Siphon Power for dueling, Death Ray for burst and wave clear, or Gravity Field for team utility.

Abilities

Viktor's kit is designed around upgrading — each basic ability can be permanently augmented via the Hex Fragment system. Full values shown below.

Glorious Evolution
PASSIVE
Glorious Evolution
Innate · Hex Fragment System

Viktor gains Hex Fragments whenever he kills an enemy. Minions and monsters grant 3 Hex Fragments; champions grant more. For every 100 Hex Fragments collected, Viktor permanently augments one of his active abilities.

After upgrading all three basic abilities, the Hexcore is perfected — automatically upgrading Chaos Storm as well. Viktor can have a maximum of 100 Hex Fragments before being forced to spend them on an upgrade.

Upgrade Order (Recommended)
E → Q → W → R — Death Ray upgrade for burst and wave clear first, then Siphon Power for dueling power, then Gravity Field for utility. R upgrades automatically after all three.
Siphon Power
Q
Siphon Power
Active · Targeted · Magic Damage

Viktor blasts an enemy unit with a burst of magic damage. The blast simultaneously grants Viktor a shield that absorbs incoming damage, and empowers his next basic attack to deal bonus magic damage.

This is Viktor's primary trading tool in lane — the shield lets him tank the opponent's retaliation while the empowered attack lands. Used aggressively in short trades: Q, empowered auto, back off.

Augment: Turbocharge
The shield absorbs 60% more damage, and Viktor gains 30% bonus movement speed for 2.5 seconds after casting. This turns Q into a mobility tool for chasing or escaping.

Gravity Field
Active · Ground-Targeted · Slow / Stun

Viktor deploys a gravitational imprisonment device at a target location for 4 seconds. Enemies inside the field are slowed. Enemies who remain in the field for 1.5 seconds accumulate Gravitation stacks (one per 0.5s, up to 3). At 3 stacks, all stacks are consumed and the enemy is stunned for 1.5 seconds.

Viktor's only crowd control ability and his primary survival tool. Crucial for both solo lane defence against ganks and team fight setup.

Augment: Implosion
Viktor's non-ultimate abilities now each apply a 20% slow for 1 second to enemies hit. This dramatically amplifies his burst combo damage, making enemies much harder to escape after being hit by Q or E.

Death Ray
Active · Skillshot · Magic Damage

Viktor uses his robotic arm to fire a Hextech Ray across the field in a line, dealing magic damage to all enemies it passes through. The ability has a generous width and travels across a long distance, making it his primary poke and wave clear tool.

Mastering the angle of the Death Ray is central to Viktor's kit — good players use it to poke from maximum range, push waves efficiently, and threaten multiple targets in team fights.

Augment: Aftershock
An explosion follows in the Death Ray's wake, dealing a second wave of magic damage. Enemies hit by both the laser and the explosion take reduced damage from the second hit — but targets caught from the side take full damage from both.

ULTIMATE
Chaos Storm
Active · Ground-Targeted · Channel + Redirect

Viktor conjures a singularity at a target location, dealing an instant burst of magic damage and interrupting all enemy channels in the area. The storm then persists for 6.5 seconds, dealing continuous magic damage per second to all enemies within its radius.

The storm automatically targets the nearest champion it initially hits and follows them — speeding up the closer it is to Viktor. Viktor can recast Chaos Storm at any time to direct it toward a specific location or enemy. Unlike most abilities, the recast can be used even while Viktor is crowd-controlled.

Augment: Perfect Storm
The singularity moves 25% faster at all times. Viktor dying no longer ends the storm — it continues chasing its target until the full 6.5 seconds expire.

Playstyle Notes

Early game: Farm safely, prioritize CS for Hex Fragments. Poke with Death Ray from max range. Don't overcommit without W setup.

Mid game: Once E is upgraded, you can push hard and roam. Use Gravity Field to set up ganks — W into the brushes before your jungler arrives.

Late game: Viktor is at his strongest post-600 AP. In team fights, drop Chaos Storm on the backline, follow with W + E + Q auto. Phase Rush lets you kite and reposition. Let the storm do the work.

005 — Story
Lore

From Zaun's laboratories to the Glorious Evolution — Viktor's path from inventor to machine herald.

A brilliant scientist born in Zaun's undercity, Viktor grew up watching people die from diseases that Piltover's expensive treatments could cure — but the wealthy had no incentive to share. Where others saw injustice, Viktor saw inefficiency. Where others felt sorrow, Viktor felt resolve. The solution, he decided, was to remove the flaws of biology entirely.

Working alongside Jayce in Piltover's academies, Viktor helped develop hextech, but always saw further than his peers. While Jayce imagined hextech as a tool to empower humanity, Viktor envisioned it as a path to replace humanity's limitations. The disagreements between the two became legendary — and irreconcilable.

"Join the Glorious Evolution." — Viktor

Returning to Zaun, Viktor began augmenting his own body with hextech implants, becoming a living testament to his own ideology. He replaced broken limbs with mechanical ones, enhanced his senses, and extended his mental processing far beyond biological limits. To him, each augmentation was not a loss of humanity but a transcendence of it.

His appearance in Arcane Season 2 dramatically expanded his story — showing him as a visionary leader whose philosophy, once confined to a laboratory, reshapes the fate of both Piltover and Zaun. Voiced by Harry Lloyd, Arcane's Viktor is one of the most complex characters in the series: a man who believes utterly in a better future, yet whose means grow increasingly terrifying.

In League of Legends canon, Viktor's Glorious Evolution has spread far beyond himself. He has built a following of willing augmented humans, and his research threatens the established order of both cities. To some he is a savior; to others, a warning.

006 — Footnotes
Trivia

Easter eggs, references, and development notes from Viktor's 13-year history.

01
Viktor was released on December 29, 2011 — one of the earliest mid-lane mages in the game. His original kit featured the Hex Core item system before it was redesigned into the current Hex Fragment passive.
02
Viktor received a full Visual and Gameplay Update (VGU) on December 11, 2024, inspired by his appearance in Arcane Season 2. All splash arts were remade and his passive system was overhauled from Hex Core items to Hex Fragments.
03
His Prototype Viktor skin depicts him in his early augmentation stages, when most implants were still experimental. It bears resemblance to The Doctor from G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
04
In the Full Machine Viktor skin description, the phrase "on a cold, dreary night" references Mary Shelley's Frankenstein — where the creature's creation is described as happening "on a dreary night."
05
Arcane Savior Viktor (2024) depicts him in the climactic final moments of Arcane Season 2 — his appearance combines his Herald role during Act 5 with his Astral form, differentiating his two states in the series.
06
Viktor is one of a handful of champions explicitly opposed to another — his ideological conflict with Jayce is baked into the lore of both characters, a scientific schism that ends in them becoming rivals on opposite sides of Piltover and Zaun's cold war.
07
The Death Ray splash in the Arcane Savior skin is based directly on a scene from Arcane where Viktor ascends through the hexgate — though Jayce is absent from the splash art.
08
Viktor's Chaos Storm was one of the earliest persistent-area controllable ultimates in League of Legends, pre-dating similar mechanics in champions like Azir and Taliyah.
