Understanding league of legends ranks is your first step toward climbing. From Iron to Challenger, here is every rank in LoL and what it takes to reach each one.
The league of legends ranks system uses League Points (LP) to measure progress. Each rank from Iron to Emerald contains 4 divisions (IV to I). At 100 LP you automatically promote to the next division. Master, Grandmaster, and Challenger have no divisions — only LP standings. Beneath the visible ranks, your hidden MMR (Matchmaking Rating) determines how much LP you gain or lose per game.
Absolute beginner tier. Focus on learning the game fundamentals — controls, abilities, last-hitting.
Common mistakes: poor map awareness, no warding, ignoring objectives. Learn wave management here.
Majority of the player base. CS habits improve here. Teamfight understanding starts to develop.
Top 35% of players. Strong basics, decent macro. The most popular milestone for casual players.
Top 20%. Rotation, objective trading, and vision control are genuine strengths at this tier.

How LP & Promotion Works
Winning a game earns 15–25 LP; losing costs 15–25 LP. At 100 LP you auto-promote to the next division. At the top of a tier (e.g., Gold I → Platinum IV) you must reach 100 LP and win a promotion game. LP gain/loss is influenced by hidden MMR — playing above your rank gives more LP per win.
How to Climb the Ranks Fast

The Jungle

Rift Scuttler
River control objective. Killing grants vision and a healing shrine. First Scuttler fight at 3:15–3:30 sets the early-game narrative.
Elemental Dragons
Four types — Infernal, Mountain, Ocean, Cloud, Hextech, Chemtech. Stacking buffs. Dragon Soul at 4 kills is decisive.
Rift Herald
Top-side objective. Eye of Herald destroys towers. Best used before 20 minutes to gain gold and structure advantages.
